I was very surprised when I went to visit Uber Eats this week. They have grown like crazy. And they’ve added some of the very best dishes from some of San Miguel’s very best chefs.
With an emphasis more on lunch than dinner, and a focus on affordability, here are seven of my favorites. I’m betting some might soon become your favorites, too.
Reuben sandwich. $135
Perhaps America’s greatest sandwich creation. Luna de Queso. 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Three lamb barbacoa tacos and a bowl of consome. $110
I’ve been eating barbacoa there for 16 years. Now I can do it at home. El Pato Barbacoa y Mixiotes. 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
Cochinita Pibil sandwich. $140
I don’t think any country has done a pork dish as well as Mexico. Ojo de Agua. 8:00 am to 6:30 pm
Carne en su jugo plato grande. $240 (enough for two)
One of Mexico’s undiscovered delights. La Milagrosa Birria Xalisco. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
El pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich. $169
Why I no longer make my own grilled cheese sandwiches at home. Inside Cafe. 9:00 am to 2:45 pm
Three tacos (pastor, longaniza, cecina). $89
Choosing just three tacos from their amazing menu was the hardest part about writing this. Sabroso Taqueria. 12:30 pm to 10:30 pm
Tonkotsu ramen. $250 (enough for two)
Their ramen was always the best in San Miguel. Recently, it got better. Chikatana. 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm
To order, simply go to ubereats.com and enter your address. The website will tell you exactly who is in your delivery area and who is open. Delivery costs are always reasonable and, in some cases, free.
Aaaaahhhh, there’s no place like home!
First time writer. Concern that people are taking the necessary precautions when receiving take out orders.
All must assume that the outside container could be contaminated and should be discharged before getting it inside. Then you should disinfect your hands before picking up the contents.
I know it’s cumbersome, but it’s necessary if you want to maintain “Clean Room” environment in your home
Great article and super useful in the present times. Win-win – restaurants can stay open and clients can stay at home. The Inside Cafe pulled pork grilled cheese is incredible.
This is grand information but UberEats has not included San Rafael and surrounding areas in their delivery area. I am waiting patiently.
Thanks for this, great advice. We ordered the ramen from Chikatana on Friday night. The app and entire process worked seamlessly and the ramen was as good as the one served at the recent wine dinner there. We got two orders and you’re right – one of them went in the refrigerator for the next day. An order of spring rolls and one ramen would be perfect for two people. Uber Eats now has an option for the food to be left at your door, the delivery person will just ring the bell and leave it. Zero personal contact. You can tip when ordering and please be generous so we can keep these guys going! Looking forward to trying some of the new additions.
Do they deliver to Connecticut? Only kidding, but I wish they could! Great article
Vegan options would be nice. This is all meat.
It’s tough for a hardcore carnivore to do vegan recommendations. But both Chikatana and Inside Cafe have a few on their Uber Eats menus.
Where is Chikatana? I’ve never heard of it.
It’s in Mercado Carmen, Zacateros and Pila Seca.
Good to know that you consider Chikatana’s Tonkatsu ramen enough for two. I am not a not very tall and not overweight woman, recently of tercer dead, but it’s so good, as are there other ramens, I have no problem polishing off the entire portion myself. Sort of. Could be because I can’t eat gluten, so request that they send rice instead of noodles, and I probably don’t eat even half the rice. I keep it for the next day, because it’s so good!
Oh dear, I should have proofread my comment that has not yet been moderated! I am not of tercer dead, but edad. And I am not a not very tall woman. I am simply a not very tall woman.
Note, you needn’t publish this rather random comment. I was pretty much just musing that I probably have a bigger appetite than some. Luckily, t doesn’t show, too much. And I suppose more about my food than I do about staying super slim. Not overweight is good enough.

D when he came to visit us when we lived in Mexico City. We have been trying to lure him here, but he’s on an African food kick at the moment, and who’s traveling these days anyway?
