Last month I attended a tasting of wines from Familia Rosso in Mendoza, Argentina. I was very impressed, impressed enough to organize a dinner paired with some of their wines. Who else to pair them I thought than Mariano Rivera of San Miguel’s Buenos Aires Bistro. A couple of emails later and we were on.
MENU
Empanada de bienvinida
Loma Alta Chardonnay
Grilled Provoleta cheese with housemade Argentine chorizo
Loma Alta Malbec Syrah
Grilled Romaine Lettuce with Parmesan shavings
Flank steak, asado style, with chimichurri, country style grilled veggies and lemon garlic potatoes
Familia Rosso Malbec Reserva
Chocolatina with vanilla ice cream
The dinner will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at Buenos Aires Bistro, Calle Mesones 62. Start time is 7:00 pm. The price is $1200 per person and includes service. Space is, as always, limited and the first to reply are in.
To reserve, simply email dondayinsma@yahoo.com with the word “Argentina” in the subject line and tell me how many will be in your party. I’ll confirm your reservation with an email.
Can’t wait! Great wines and what a enticing menu!
After following your blog for a couple of years 5 of us decided tonight to try your top rated restaurant for the past two years, Firenze. What a terrible disappointment . We were seated, water was poured but no menus for 25 minutes, after we finally asked for them. There was only one white wine available, Chardonnay, which we don’t drink. The waiter then went somewhere and came back with a third of a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Then we were told there was no vacio that night. Probably we should have just left at that point, but we persevered. Two of us ordered salmon and asked for it well cooked. It came nearly raw. It was sent back, came back again undercooked. At that point no one wanted to eat. We did not order dessert. We paid our bill and left feeling extremely disappointed.
Thought you should know.
