Today is March 20, the very last day to cast your vote for your favorite San Miguel restaurants. The competition is the SMART awards, the annual event where I ask Don Day in SMA readers to share with me their very best favorite places to eat.
SMART stands for San Miguel de Allende Readers Taste and, to vote, requires only a quick email. The only guidance I give is to not just consider the obvious reasons…the food, the service and the atmosphere…but also to think of value and how much pleasure you get for your pesos.
To vote is very simple. Just send an email to dondayinsma@yahoo.com with the word Smarts in the subject line and your top three choices in the body. Or, if you don’t have three that stand out, send me the names of two, or even just one. If you want to include a short comment, even better, because that will help me know what’s important to my readers and give me something I can possibly quote when I write about the winners.
About the only rule is one vote (for up to three restaurants) per email address and send it to me today. The winners will be announced at the SMARTs gala dinner to be held on April 1 and on the blog on the following day. And those who vote will receive an advance invitation to attend the dinner.
Please help me give recognition to San Miguel’s very best restaurants. Please vote for your choices right now.
Firenze
Firenze, once again
Romero’s..Best new restaruant and I now think the best restaruant in SMA.
Da Carmela : everything perfect! Food, staff, welcoming atmosphere. Absolutely first choice…even being on the busy street didn’t detract from our enjoyment.
Estoril: white tablecloths, excellent service, best sushi ever. Very classy dining room. Location on Hidalgo.
Coyote Fuego: extremely well-trained staff and service. Atmosphere, food, physical design of the restaurant. High quality drinks and everything else!
You know, I do my share of fine dining. Sometimes out and others in friends homes. This is a tough question to set criteria for, but this time around I narrowed it down to the basic, ‘Where do I mostly eat out? And, you know, after street food, the answer was easy –it’s Hanks.
Now don’t give me that, “You must be some sort of cretin,” and just listen up.
Multiple seating options — bar, backroom, booth, dining room/fireplace, high-tops.
Cross- section of the most entertaining folks in town — Mexican and expat.
The menu is a monster. That is usually impossible to execute, but 90% of it is on point.
Best bartenders in town.
Preparation is prompt and service excellent.
The food is remarkably consistent and with great turnover, ingredients are always fresh.
The order is flexible — change up the sides and get what you want.
All in, the best food and drink value in town.
Valet parking.
Hanks is a Mexico icon. Who else would Harry’s get in a scap with?
